Artistic Statement

 

My independent creative practice sits at the intersection of performance, artistic practice, and knowledge generation. Performance and performance-making is the starting point through which I research, develop, and articulate my work as a teacher, dramaturge, writer, arts and health practitioner and theorist.

I have developed a creative practice called Sere Kinaesthetic, alongside a range of frameworks and tools that support Ainquiry. My work engages with themes and theories related to African arts following independence, Transnational practices, Artistic citizenship, Postcolonial repair, Critical embodiment, Creative Health and the 'Everyday'. Across these areas, I am interested in how performance can create spaces for discovery, agency, imagination and collaboration within and beyond professional artistic practice.

FAE Studios is the business name for my collaborative work and broader creative and intellectual projects. The word Studio captures the spirit of this space: open, working, and generative. It is a place where disciplines meet, ideas are tested, and creative and intellectual work are understood as inseparable.

​

Alongside FAE Studios, I am developing Enact Arts CIC, a community interest company which support creative communities.  Enact Arts promotes creativity for all while developing the research context for practitioners and practices of African lineage within professional contexts. Together, these spaces reflect an ongoing commitment to performance as a mode of inquiry: a way of making, thinking, teaching, researching, and connecting.
